Default Stenman Relief completed

Well, I didn't get this finished at the class in August and it's been sitting on my desk waiting. Nasty weather gave me some time to finish the painting and sealing.

It is done in the Stenman's low relief style, with the background highlighted with woodburning. Painting is done with watered down acrylic and the finis is satin poly.

All the colors are done with a very watered down acrylic wash. That acts more as a colored stainthan a paint. The white for the house was a little heavier, but not so much that the wood grain didn't show through. After everything was painted, I put a really thin wash of dark brown over the whole thing, except the white house and the quilt, and then immediately wiped that off.

Final finish was several coats of Krylon satin poly. For some reason (maybe the can was mismarked) the finish came out quit glossy, so I steel wooled the whole thing with 0000 wool and them buffed it out by hand with a soft cotton cloth.

look at the can real close Al...if its like the ones I just bought, they changed they labeling and easy to miss whether is satin or gloss. I suppose that is in case you miss it and get the wrong one, you will buy another?

I personally do a lot of low relief carvings. Yours is very well done. I love the choice of colors and the quilt really draws attention to the carving. Nice work.

I'm getting ready to do what I think is a low relief style...from what I have read. It will be my first one, and my daughter plans on doing a similar carving...with me guiding her along the way, which should be interesting - a rookie guiding a rookie. I'm reviewing tutorials I could locate on line. Hope it turns out half as good as yours. Nicely done.
