Default Simple jewelry box

I made this as a first attempt at chip carving. Just a simple geometric ring pattern in walnut. I kinda cheated by using a background stamping tool used for leather working to texture the background of the type. Still working up my courage to imitate some of the wonderful examples I've seen posted here.

Nice pattern! For chip carving this I would suggest that you use a basswood or butternut for your first attempt and reduce the size of the pattern so the chips aren't so large. By do those two things it will make the chip carving a lot easier. Good Luck!

It will make a nice gift. I recently made my first attempt at chip carving, I really enjoyed it, but I guess like anything else it takes lots of practice. My biggest problem is cutting too deep and keeping my cuts at the recomended 65 degree. I hope you enjoy, it's lots of fun.

Nice work, nice box. I wouldn't consider that cheating.

Good job. Maybe it is the photo but I can't see any cuts intersecting below the surface. It looks more like relief carving than chip carving. The textured parts look like they are all level. Hoping you take this in a positive way.
