Default Self portrait

Okay, okay, I'm not really that good looking, let me dream a little. The finish is still in progress. I've got to tone the gloss down a bit more (it's not really as glossy as it looks in the pic, the sun is shining on it) but it's getting there. I'm using danish oil over two coats, one being sacrificial, of BLO.

Here is another pic prior to finish application. Which makes the better picture?

Hi Wolf, interesting I like the eyes better in the second image--they seem less yellow. In your next update can you please show the whole carving?
Kathy

Kathy, the yellow pigment in the eyes is identical in both pictures. There is, however, one major difference in the eyes between the two images that doesn't translate very well in photography. At least, not in MY photography. After I painted the eyes, but before I applied the oil finish, I covered the eyes with three coats of clear high gloss poly. This gives the appearance of moisture on the eyeballs and also protects them from the oil finish. Also, the finish darkens the whole image and makes the eyes even more prominent. That was actually my intent, I wanted the eyes really prominent. After all, they are, IMHO, my best feature :-)))))

I will probably show the whole carving later in the year.............
