Default Scroll Saw Carving

Hi, I am new and My name is Matthew:

I saw in a magizine about relief cariving scroll saw patterns. I was wondering what is the average thickness of the wood and what woods are typically used for these kinds of carvings?

Thanks

I did some in cypress, but they are really more like an engraving or faux woodburning. I used a V-tool and/or veiner to cut along the lines, then used walnut stain and wiped it with spirits, which took most of the stain off the face of the board but left it in the cuts.

I think you could use any thickness of wood. You might also do a Google on "kolrosing", a form of Swedish carving. It looks like you could use scroll saw patterns with it.
