Default Sand Island Lightfish

This piece has a little bit of everything in it, but I'll post it here anyway. The subject on the fish is the lighthouse on Sand Island (one of the Apostle Islands in Lake Superior). Each side features a view of the light from a different angle. The lighthouse is carved in shallow relief and then the details are burned in. This lighthouse is a good pyrography subject because the sandstone blocks that make up the walls are done with the burner. The whimsy on the fish is also outlined with the woodburner before being painted. The funny shape at the base of the pole is a profile of Sand Island.

Ken,

I really like the way that you have stepped away from carving a traditional fish.

Your composition ties the subject matter all together.

Very nicely done!

Thumbs up Re: Sand Island Lightfish

Really nice work. Using contrasting colors (blue/orange) really makes a piece stand out. There are many things that keep your eyes wandering.

Great job!
