All I am finding on the web are Sorby turning tools. Do they make heavey gouges for relief carving and if so can you provide me with a link on where to find them.

The only place I have seen Sorby Tools is in Sears Catalouge, I believe last year. They are "Pricey".

Sorby makes only wood turning tools. You can look them over at Woodcraft.com, however they are not suitable for relief carving IMO.

Robert Sorby does make quite a line of woodcarving tools. They are available through Grizzly

Grizzly.com® -- Home

then to the search window and put in Robert Sorby. I tried going through woodcarving tools and only got Xacto.

On the Sorby gouges, particularly those less than 12MM, the gouge shafts are very thin walled unlike similar tools from two cherries and others. It is a matter of preferance but for me I like the thicker walled brands. Once you get above 12MM the wall thickness on Sorby's seem to be on par with others. Swiss Made also tends to use thinner walls as well on their smaller gouges.
