That is a great looking sign and your son did a super job on all aspects of it. He has a great future ahead of him!

I am curious about the medium, I have heard of it refered to before, but have not come across it, where would you purchase something like that? It looks perfect for any outdoor carvings, and I have one in mind for the end of my shed facing the road.

Bob

Thank you, Irishman.........
Joy, it took him 8 full time working days without interruption to completion. This carving brought him $6,000.00, and that's not bad for his first solo.
He earned his chisel handeling stripes working at my side on the large Glacier Park International carving. Working on a large piece together gave me the opportunity to watch and correct any odd habits popping up in his techniques. The very big deal with chisel handling in large murals is holding the mallet and chisels loosely without a firm grip, but most of you already know this.
Death grips on either mallet or chisels will bring callouses, stiff muscles and sore bones within an hour. With production murals the ability to work hours on end is income critical. Carving is tons of fun........ but for us its also dead serious.
Truth be told, I enjoy carvings with no commercialism involved, but.......... ya gots ta eat!

Bob, the medium comes from Coastal Enterprises and is called Precision Board. www.precisionboard.com We now only used wood when specifically requested.
