Default Relief carving background

I am a new member that just posted a question under general wood carving because I didn't notice there was a special section for relief carving. If anyone can advise me on how to carve these backgrounds please reply.

Default Re: Relief carving background

See my answer posted with your other question. This may illustrate why some carvers leave the background with gouge marks ("Makes it look more like woodcarving!") or textured.
