Default Relief carved cabin

Hello all - This is my first post here. I've done some spoons and celtic knots but this is my first "real" relief carving.

It is a cabin belonging to friend outside of Boone, NC.
12" x 20" carved in 8/4 cherry.

Really nice carving. What tools did you choose for it. Cherry is not exactly a soft easy wood to work with! Also, are you aware of the yearly Woodcarvers Workshop in Boulder Junction, WI? Occurs in about 3rd week of August yearly (MUST register early) About 125 + people with skills of all levels. Inexpensive. Instructors are talented and classes small. Registration through K Giron at Kgg824@charter.net Great experience.

I used a little of everything I had. As I said this was my first attempt at landscape relief so I tried a lot of different techniques and tools. I used a router to establish the initial levels. My most used tools are a set of Flexcut gouges that I made handles for (or, for which I made handles ;-)). I used a Dremel with some diamond burrs for texturing.

The cherry wasn't to hard to carve and I really like the color as it ages. Just keep the tools sharp and it works well.

I am very impressed....that is a great piece. I only hope my first relief (which I am still trying to work up enough courage to start) turns out half a well as your. Great job.
