Default Red Dragon of Wales

My wife wanted me to make this shield for her brother for his birthday, he's turning 70 and she wanted something special for him. (Don't anybody tell him now! shusssss!!!)

He has been doing some research into the family tree and made a trip to the Old Country to see where his father was born. Welsh coal miners, lived in some place with an un-prouncable name and even crazier to spell! Moved to Springjill in Nova Scotia, worked in the mines there until the Bump in '58 when they closed for good.

Bob,

VERY nice dragon! Were the background colors from a crest or just your choice?

Excellent rendering of the flag. I'm especially impressed with the tongue and tail. How big is it?
Cosmic - I just carved my first Welsh dragon into a spoon earlier today!

I did the same thing last year (trip to old country & found Grampa's house in the little mining town on the side of a hill - Tredegar was our town). One of my favorite things to do was read all the road signs everywhere we went. It was beautiful there.

I'm embarrassed, I didn't recognize the flag. It was the oval that threw me off (yeah, right).

You did a great job on that, Bob. Your brother-in-law should love it.

The plaque measures 15" x 10". The colours are that of the flag of Wales, or as close as I could do. I think he'll like it. Thanks for the encouragement folks.
