Great looking box! I love walnut and the carvings are perfectly balanced.

What type of paint do you use? I have a piece I am about ready to finish and am thinking of painting leafs, but have never painted anything yet.

Well, I am not a paint kind of gal. I was going to use thinned down india ink and all of my ink was so old that it was lumpy. So I started poking around in my art supplies and came up with a concoction.

I wanted something transparent like a stain but in colors.
I used rubbing alcohol and water color paint to color it. Then rubbed off the highlights. It worked GREAT! I will definitely do it that way again.
I tried denatured alcohol, it will not dissolve the paint when it's in a cake form.

You can mix the colors to be anything you want them to be. The alcohol dries quickly enough not to warp or raise the woodgrain and the oil finish just slicked right over the top no problem.

What a cool finish! I was going to paint my "turned carving", but my wife said "no way"!

I say you should be really pleased with it? Due to the excellent job you did on it plus the finish really sets a nice tone for the neat carving & the old wood just right!

Great job again,Forrest

Thanks everyone. You make me feel SO proud!

Now, to get my next project planned out.

Trying to decide if I want to make another "secret box" like the Celtic inspired Dragon box or if I want to make something else.

I guess I'll have to poke around and see what inspires me.

Hmm... maybe a box with a Jeep on it!
Naw, that won't do.

Definitely a secret box though.

K.
