Default questions from a beginner landscape relief carver

I've got my set of palm tools in November. Got bench knife for christmas and A few helpful things since. Since then I have been carving relief carvings like the world ends tomorrow. I am getting ready to add just a simple Dremel tool to my arsenal. I know there are plenty of hand tools i need to get or i would willing to spend more money on a handpiece. my questions are about which burrs would be most recommended. in your advice you could even give websights or company names you get yours from. i have MS and have weak hands. i know i want to continue to carve until i am gone. when i dont feel up to chiseling away, i would like to at least have the power tool sitting around. so any suggestions for advice for purchases in the future. so i would like to have some pretty i will be spending maybe $50.00-$60.00 on burrs. sorry about the drawn out question. my wife's not happy about me always needing to add more things to my carving arsenal.

Hi New WVCarver,

Life for us, if you believe the statistics, will be shorter than average. If we do manage to live longer, it doesn't matter because we'll be too weak to hold a tool. So, my advice is to go for it while you can. That goes for everyone. Afterall, life's too short.

Look in Woodcarvers Supply. They have a fair selection I hear. As far as which ones you need to consider which type of wood and what you will use them for (touch up or removing allot of material). Hope this helps.

Keep on keeping on.
I have gone to my local hardware store out here named Menards, and they have a section just for Dremel. You should buy the burrs you need for the projects you plan on doing keeping in mind what type of wood you'll be carving on. get some aggressive bits that will remove material quickly and some to do finer detailing, I know that you'll have a lot to choose from, but that's all I can tell you. Menards is a great place to shop and It will save you some money also.

May you continue to carve for as long as possible.
May the Lord give you the strength to do what you love to do.

It's handy to have a power tool handy even if you carve with mallet or palm. I have started to use my power carver more often and find it every helpful sometimes. I must admit though my favorites are the mallet and palm tools.
I have several burr's I use both rough and fine, ruby carvers and steel. I don't know what burrs Dremel makes but shape wise the flame shape is useful and the barrel shape also. A cutting burr is also nice to have in your set. Dremel has come a long way in offering more to the carver.
My powercarver is a Foredom and I've had it for over a year now. It's a real workhorse and hasn't let me down yet.
