Default power chisel?

I've tried chip carving and don't seem to be able to get the cut deep enough in one stroke. I can widdle the cuts down but that isn't really chip carving I guess. Is it at all possible to do this with a reciprocating power chisel?

Kathy when I first started chip carving I had the same problem, You really have to work on sharpening your knife, a good sharp knife will get the chips out clean, you may want to look at this website mychipcarving.com Marty is a lot of help and has great service he also has some videos on sharpening and basic chip carving. If I can be any help let me know.

You really don't have to cut deep, the secret is that the 3 angles of the chip are the same so that they meet.....the depth is entirely up to you as how shallow or severe the angle is.....get Wayne Bartons book "chipcarving, techniques and patterns" and do exactly as he says...even if it feels awkward, you will be off and running.....err carving
