Hi Kathy,
this is turning into a very nice piece. How much detail do you plan to do? Are you going all out on the feathers? I have always said bird carving requires more skill than almost any other kind of carving. Whether you are going for absolute realism or not, there is a lot of work involved and I have the highest regard for bird carvers.

I can't wait to see the finished product. I will leave the advise giving to the other bird carvers on here but will certainly come back to enjoy the end result.

On thing is for sure, I like it. Feel kind of bad posting that I thought it needed a little color and then you having problems with it. Personally, I think you did an "Outstanding" job on it in both carving and painting.Way to go Kathy!!

Hi All, geez I feel bad cause I haven't been very good about checking this forum. Shame on me!

Gooch, I think your right about your first relief carving being something simple. It give you an opportunity to try the various relief cuts. Also it doesn't take forever to complete. Your chanes for a successful out come are so much better. Then as you gain confidence and skill you can take on more advanced subjects. What ya think?

susieq, this is a 'done duck' I plan no more work on this one, and will probably not do another. LOL I think I'll leave the ducks to those who know them best and how to carve them best also. I do thank you

Kenny, well you should! LOL NA, just kidding it was my own doing or should I say un-doing. I do thank you though for the nice compliment.

I really appreciate you all looking, commenting and your encouragment means a lot to me.
Kathy

Mottles,Someone sent me a link to a site for simple images for relief carvings but unfortuneately my laptop went down for a while and I lost my e mails etc...Can't remember who it was .
I have taken a picture of a cabin style bird feeder I have in my yard and I'll try that to start.I did do a couple of flying ducks in relief and they were not too bad at all.I'll try this bird feeder now.
