Default pattern tracing

Back again with another question.

I've bought my wife a wooden jewelry box.
I want to chip carve it.
The wood is dark - Indian origin.
How do I transfer the pattern on to dark wood?

Up till now the little carving I've done has been on light coloured wood - limewood.

How do others tackle this?

They make white transfer paper for dark woods. I got some from Hobby Lobby. I am sure other craft stores carry it also.

Thanks for the response and the alacrity of it! I'll go and do a search.

Again thanks

Another option is to free hand it with a white drawing pencil.

Wink Re: pattern tracing

IdeaIdeaIdeaI'd thought of that but had to rethink it. SWMBO picked a pattern that is beyond my drawing skills. Well a wife would. I should have hid my patterns.

My first search came up with a product Saral £24 or $48 a roll 12 foot by 12".

That much I do n't need.

Hi....try Nedra Denison's site...she's a professional pyrographer on this board and operates "The Sawdust Connection".....I believe she carries the white in a 5-sheet package.

I do not like tracing so I use the method taught to me. Yea I know its not recommended by the pros, but it works well for me. I use rubber cement and paste the pattern right onto the wood. It removes easily by using a piece of crepe sanding belt cleaner. Also comes off easily with finger rubbing if you don't mind the heat.

Any office supply or stationary store sells a silver color lead pencil (not lead, don't know what else to cal it lol) I found them years ago and use them for marking on steel for layout for a cutting torch...but they work great on anything...! It seems to me, I have seen the same color silver in a graphite paper??

i print out the pictures or patterns on thick paper and cut out the design with a razor blade. from there i trace it out on the wood. this way i can use again.

misterart.com also carries that tracing paper stuff too. i don't like using it, cause it does'nt always transfer as well as i like it to.

I've found a supplier in England that sells five sheets of different colours.

So thats the problem solved, its a shop selling gear for sewing!

However thanks to you all again for your help, your a good bunch.
SJBrian that method appeals to me, thanks.
