Default Painted Church Carving

Just painted my carving. Here is a little sign I carved for my son. I think, I'll carve his name in it then stain it. I think I'll try to put more depth in my next ones. I guess that means my church needs to be back farther and not at the highest point.

Thomas,

If you are ready for a new carving you might want to visit my website and try our little barn tutorial. It's free and includes the patterns. It might give you a little sense of using more depth in your work and a few ideas on how to make churchs that have stone walls and board and batten walls.

There are eight pages posted to this tutorial and many carvers have used it as their very first wood carving.

Keep working at your reliefs with each one you will learn and get better and better. You can't go wrong following one of Susan's tutorials from her web site. I have followed at least two and bought several of her books. I learned a lot!
I like the idea of adding your son's name to the sign you carved it's a wonderful idea.
