| | Re: Old Timer Update HI Ron,
I just wanted to add my compliments to your relief. I think you got the hat brim more realistic looking than the one in the book that you're copying. Wonderful job. I can't help with the finish, but it sounds like you're getting good advice.
Keep up the great work. You REALLY get better with every piece you show us!

| | Re: Old Timer Update Ron! He's FANTASTIC! You have caught such great shadowing especially under the chin area and in the hat brim and cap ... absolutely great work. I love the detailing through the hat ties-collar area. There's a lot of time and energy in that area and the work you did really shows. If it were me I don't think I would do much more with the coloring. As Lynn suggested the eyes now come forward nicely. You have captured such great shadowing through the face - chin - collar area I would be concerned that you might loose some of that shadow if you add too much staining. When you have done such a great job in the carving stage to create those shadows and depth it might be time to 'leave it alone'. It's great as it stands now. Susan (Sorry I was late in posting to your thread ... it's inventory time for the dog art site so I've been in the studio counting prints. I'd much rather be here and carving ) |

Absolutely great!!
As good as the book and then some considering the effort you put into it.
I'm amazed and humbled.
As for the finish. I think the author of the book uses neutral shoepolish that doesn't add much color. Your excellent layering makes the subject jump out.
Thanks for showing.
