Default Old style chip carving

Any one in here ever try the style of chip carving in which you use ten or twelve knives? That might not be very clear, and my understanding of it could be wrong, but I think one of the techniques is to make three stop cuts in the center of the chip, then cut at an angle into those cuts. I think the knife for the stop cuts looks like a stab knife, but sharpened for cutting. If anyone knows of any books on the subject let me know. Thank you.

Only a few very old books will describe the type of chip carving where you use 10+ knives. Barry McKenzie also does a little of this kind of chip carving. I don't think he uses a sharpened stab knife but take a look. Woodcarving Illustrated - How To Magazine for Carvers - Quilt Patterns Inspire Chip-carved Coasters Good Luck!
