Default Not so angry lion.

I was so pleased with the Angry Lion piece, that I thought I would do another, somewhat larger one. The Angry Lion was 7" x 7" x 1", this Not So Angry Lion is 13" x 10 1/2" x 2", and the wood is Basswood. Finished the carving part today, now have to begin burning in the fur. This is also the largest "waiting" carving I've done, mostly at the local mall, waiting for my beautiful bride to shop for Spring wardrobe! Three trips to the mall and a bit of time in the evenings. I'll go back to small pieces in future, this thing was just too heavy for me to lug back and forth to the car. Folks certainly enjoyed watching the piece come together though.

Hi Bob,

What a wonderful carving. I really like the way you designed and carved his mane.

Well, a days burning seems to have done wonders to Mr. Lion here. That plus a couple of coats of Tung oil. A few more coats over the next few days, and he'll be done. I'm quite happy with the results.

I do love seeing how many different subjects and compositions you come up with. This lion is sure different than the angry lion, and I like it just as much.

MA, burning and carving is not the same as playing with matches and knives.
