and select the relief and decorative items album. The mahogany swag I posted is also from Mike Davies book.

Mike and anyone else interested,

I found a place where you can order a hardcover book of "Traditional Woodcarving in the Norwergian Tradition" by Johan Amrud, if you're still interested.

http://bookshop.blackwell.com/bobus/scripts/welcome.jsp

Search by ISBN number 8200419789, and it should come up with the page to order it from the UK for $38.20 plus S&H.

My order was placed and payment confirmed. Now I wait...

Hope this helps.

Bob

Since you are in Ireland....what about attending a class in England? The British magazine Wood Carving has several classes advertized/offered, and I notice that they do a lot of architectural carvings. Might be worth a peek? Do you get the magazine, if not, I can send some contact info from my copy, if you were interested ?

Chris Pye teaches classes at his studio in England. I'd love to spend a few days or a week there, he's a great carver! He has a website and a free newsletter, too. www.chrispye might get you there, but if not, do a search under his name.

Hey Liferescue, did you have a chance to look through this book before you ordered it?

No, OG, I haven't seen the book. I normally like to see a book before I buy it, but I haven't been able to find a copy of it around here. But I saw the price, and that it was available, and I took a shot in the dark, and ordered it. Hope it's written in English! LOL

With my interest in sign carving, and my interest in the acanthus, I have been looking for Amrud's book for a while now. I have a copy of the WCI Summer 2003 Issue with Hans Sandom's article which I thought was great. According to Hans Sandom's bio with the article, he is a self-taught carver and that the designs of Johan Amrud influenced his work. Based on that, I wanted to see Amrud's book. When Mike said that the book was the one to have, I looked all that much harder for it.

Thanks for the tip. I ordered one and shold have ordered 2. I could have sold the second on ebay. The last one that sold went for more than $100. I've seen the book. My library borrowed it from another out-of-state library. It's very good and has a lot of illustrations. I also contaced the Vesterheim school and museum in Iowa (referenced in the book). We're supposed to be able to buy Amrud's patterns from them, and they teach carving there as well.
