hi I am completely new to chip carving and am wondering if anybody has any good patterns that aren't too hard but would look good on a coaster

I would recommend Barry McKenzie for patterns for coasters. He has a package of patterns for coasters for sale and he has also had articles on coasters in Wood Carving Illustrated. I've done some of them with good luck.

If you will click on Patterns on the left side of the screen you will find some patterns for coasters mentioned by Goofy above.
