Default New Member Jewelry Box

I am not that experienced of a chip carver but love doing it. I am just to the point of learning to do some deeper chips, lettering, etc. I have made and sold some walking sticks. The box is all basswood with Bakote corner feet, splines and handle.

Very Nice Work!!

I like the design layout and the Bocote inserts. Bocote is one of my favorites for many small items.

Are you going to fnish it with stain, or is it sealed already?

How about the "innards" felt padding??

Again great job!

Sorry, left out more details. Inside has Bakote dividers as well and black felt. I already sealed the outside. Thats where I really need help. I didnt know what to do with it. I ended up brushing a semi-gloss water based uv/mildew poly on it. I honestly dont like how it come out but I am extremely critical of my work. You can ask people that know me. Ha!

You claim that your not an experience chip carver.....from that piece i would say that you are. I love doing boxes and wish that I can do chip carving. Maybe I was disuaded because I bought an egg from Michaels to do the chip carving, and the wood was awful(or maybe I was). I'm a perfectionist so I was not to happy and will probally not try again for quite some time(like intarsia). I envy you guys & gals that pick things up so quickly.....

Hi Stoney,

That is a beautiful box and I agree, the Bokote inserts are a very nice accent to the design.

I would love to see pictures of your sticks.

Stoney from Indiana,
How you doing? You know for a guy with very little exoerience you produce some very nice work. I have never done the chip carving thing. It just always looked out of my league. This is really nicely done.

Safe carving and God Bless,

Mark
