| | New Eagle Finished Well I finally finished the Eagle that I have been working on for several weeks. I tried to take all the advice that everyone gave that I also greatly appreciate and worked on the far shore line and tried to layer the clouds like Susan suggested. Susan's idea was to turn the carving upside down and then I could feel the clouds stepping down like they should. Great idea Susan it worked great. Trying to get the eagle too look and feel like he was soaring above the water was a challenge I just hope it looks as good as it feels. I tried to texture the tree branches to look like a jack pine but it was impossible for me to keep track of where I was and had already been so I had to try a different approach and I think it turned out pretty good. The trees along the descending bank I textured a different way so they would not look and feel alike. Right now it has two coats of natural danish oil on it. This particular carving took me about 150 hours and is about 12X18X2" the wood is Spanish cedar.

| | Re: New Eagle Finished Wow!
The clouds do work as well as they feel. They now have a nice layered look. The texturing on the trees is fantastic, especially the row of pines along the river's edge. I can't tell from the photo, they are a little blurry, are the tree trunks textured too?
The eagle wings are very nice. You might want to check the shoulder join where the upper wing meets the side of the eagle's boy. I think there might be some of the shoulder area that would show in this area ... but I am not sure. Don't change the wing unless someone else, like Garry who has the original pattern, can check.
The best area is the under cut along the upper wing. It is casting a beautiful black shadow against the distant sky. It really pushes the eagle forward in front of everything.
Another great one, Ron!

| | Re: New Eagle Finished I will check the wing ...but since I am going to make small comments.
I would like to see Katy take another photo, but the right side tress really do not stand out from the clouds. But a good job Ron. A bit of texture on them would bring them out. Only opinion Mate but a well Done carving .

| | Re: New Eagle Finished Ron, the pictures are blurry but from what I see the carving looks good. The seperation of form is there. 150 hrs shows a good result.

| | Re: New Eagle Finished That's quite a carving Ron. With no experience in relief carving, I would not be able to tell you what to improve on. All I see is a very nice carving. Well done.
