Default Need Advice

I saw the article about carved light switch covers, so did my wife. I would like to try to carve them. My only issue is where can I find a bear and deer pattern small enough for this project. Thanks

first id do a "google image search for what im looking or-- print that off and then likely reduce it to the size you need- most of the carved switch plate covers have seen are larger than the plastic ones you purchase- lora irish has many patterns and they are already line drawings-- you might also find something there.

good luck and let us see what you have done.

In addition to google try bow hunting and deer hunting magazines, your local sporting goods stores, and public libary for line art or images.

The hard part is cutting the holes for the switch or outlet plugs. I am in the process of making some myself out of Bocote but no carvings.

There are lots of patterns here: Woodcarving Patterns, Classic Carving Patterns Online, Wood Carving Designs and Patterns Online You could woodburn the pattern, or relief carve it. After it's done, use the old plastic switch plate as a template, drill/cut holes for the screws and switch and you're done.
