I've done a ton of landscape paintings in watercolor, acrylics and scratchboard... but this is my first try at a Relief Landscape. On 8x10 1" Basswood. C&C appreciated |

The carving looks good, but because of the lighting on your photo, the background and trees seem to be "reversed".. Looks like they stand proud of the rest of the carving. could you post another with different lighting? Al |

Al: I had scanned it...I'll shoot it differently and post it again! |

Looks really nice Burtoni. I was having a hard time with your first picture too. Looked like every thing was inverted. The second one shows it corrected. One thing though, does the water in the bottom left just stop? Shouldn't it run off the carving? Might be my computer not showing it correctly? Todd |

Todd: The water goes right past...there's foliage below it! I think the problem with the first one was having scanned the basswood instead of shooting it with a camera. Maybe I should have carved it without the border...then the water would be seen moving through a lot better! |

That picture is a LOT better! I really like the way you have sort of a "foggy" effect on the valley between the hills behind the trees. I think a similar break would have accented the set of hills on the left, too, but all in all a very nice piece. Al |

Thanks Al! I don't expect I'll ever scan a Basswood Relief again!!! It really reversed the depths! It looks so much better in person!! Now to figure out how I'll stain the piece.

Burtoni, I just checked on another computer, and now I see what you mean. Nice work, and I like the border on this one. Todd |
