Default My first chip carving project

I took a two classes in chip carving a couple of weeks ago. The first class was making a practice board of the basic cuts. The second class, the next day was decorating a box. I finally finished it. And, while it has its problems, I had a lot of fun with it, and learned plenty.

I'd be happy with it even if it was my 25th piece.

What a really beautiful box .... Such precise work requiring so much patience is far beyond me. You've done a great job.

Nice looking box, Tom. You did an admirable job on it. I've done a few practice boards, but nothing worth bragging about.

Curt, thanks for the kind words. Sometimes "tackle" is about right. Just throw yourself at it and see what happens!

TreeWizard, thanks for the compliment. I have marvled over your work on many an ocassion.

Bob, Thanks! Every encouraging word helps!!!

Dave, Thanks. The class was at the Oregon Carvers Rendezvous, in Silverton, OR. Sam Hutchinson was the teacher.

Thanks Nancy. It was fun to do. I took some of the designs from books and made up some others. I appreciate the good words.

Simplyme, Thanks for the encouragement. I've made plenty of firewood with other projects. This one turned out not so bad.

Ed, thanks for the kind words. The thing about signing up for a class, is that you pretty much have to start the project. Then...once started...might as well finish it.
