Default My FIRST chip carving (if you call it that - LOL)

Well, my grandson is turning 1 (well he was 1 yesterday), but his party is this Saturday. I made this little dog pull toy, and wanted to incorporate some carving - since I just got into carving 2 months ago - so I decided to chip carve his name into the sides - and carve a dog bone for the end of the leash. I put magnets in both the bone and near the dogs mouth so when not pulling it - he can store the bone as if the dog was holding it in his mouth.

The president of the carving club I belong to and another member gave me the CHIP CARVING 101 lesson at a show we recently had - then I practiced in some bass wood. Poplar is much tougher I found out - LOL

for looking

That is one neat little project, your grandson should enjoy playing with it for a long time. The neame looks great on it .

Hey SV,
Nice gift for your grandson.
My uncle made a pull toy dog for my kids and now my grand kids are pulling it all over the house. They love it!
