Default My 1st relief carving

hello everyone! I wanted to get some feedback from the pros about my 1st relief carving which I have completed some time ago. I'm a brand new carver and I dont know anyone around in the field to give me feedback on what I have done! Thank you in advance! Claude. PS, I have posted it to the picturetrail website for all to see.

Wow, Claude, you did a great job on that sign!! Lettering is one of the most difficult things to get right, IMHO. Amazing first carving!!

Claude,
Welcome aboard nice to have another Canadian aboard. I cant believe that is your first carving my first didnt look anywhere as good as that. I see you are from London Ontario I was just down that way this week visiting a very good carving friend of mine Phil Orchard he teaches carving in London wondering if you knew him? Also Mary-Ann Jack Bleach is also an excellent carver from London another good friend of mine.

very nice work claude. i especially like the wings on the gull.
relief can sometimes be very difficult because of the small layers you have to create, but you have done a great job.

Thanks for your wonderful comments. I really appreciate all the feedback I get. This relief carving was given to a very close friend of ours who still resides in Victoria. She wanted me to start making some for other military families but I told her that would take the fun out of it and she would have to settle on this one-of-a-kind carving. I'm quite a few years from retirement and I just want to carve for the fun of giving them away to family and friends. I wonder if anyone else feels thw same as I do but it just feels good for now. Which part of Canada are you from Colin? It's also nice to hear from fellow Canadians also Take care everyone! Claude.

Wow Claude, that looks great. I can't believe that's your first relief carving. I love those carved signs and yours is really beautiful.

It looks like I'm right between you and Colin, I'm from Hamilton. Did either of you guys have anything in the Woodcarving Champoinships at the Hamilton Woodshow??

Chris

Chris,
I didnt enter the Hamilton show but I did enter the Kitchener Wood Show and placed 2nd. The same carving took first at the Brooklin show it was my large bark carving. There is a picture of it on Picturetrail in the woodspirit album
