| | Mother's Day Gift I got my Mom's Mother's Day gift finished a little while ago and as it is headed out in the mail tomorrow I thought I might post it now. It's worked on older pre-routed board of butternut. I know it's a very simple design ... but I am pleased.
I used something new to me to finish it off. Usually I use an oil finish but for this one I tried one light coating of Watco Satin Wax. It's stinkier than whosits during the application but it sure gave a beautiful satin finish! Dried quick, which is what I needed since I have to mail the carving and let a much darker tone to the butternut than my oil finishes do. I'm not sure if that's because of the age of the butternut, which could have darkened it or from the wax.
So, now I'm off to find an online florist to add some real roses for her!

| | Re: Mother's Day Gift OUTSTANDING! Like it for sure and the color tone of the wax on the butternut seem not to darken all that much which is good. Thanks for sharing and keep them coming.
Dave, please post a picture when you get your scroll saw project finished. |

| | Re: Mother's Day Gift Beautiful work! I'm sure your Mom will love it. Hope you dated it and wrote something on the back. It will be passed down in the family with time. Sure do miss my Mother. She died years ago at a young 58 years old. Mike
