Default maple tree panel

Finished this panel for a hospital in Minnesota. The panel is basswood and measures 48" w x 60" h. I added some 1/4" thick leaves and wood to the trunk to create a more dimensional look.
The carving was carved using just a v-tool and three #3 gouges. Sadly it had to be painted and to me it looked so much better natural.

You can see a step by step process of the carving on blog if you are interested.

thanks,
Stave

It is lovely. You do leaves beautifully.
I'm a fan of painted carvings quite often, and I really prefer it painted even though it looks beautiful both ways. It makes it stand out more to me and the colors you used are very gentle.

Natural looks better to me too. Yet, if it "had to be painted," you ( I presume) made excellent color selections.

Beautiful work!

Stave, hat is a very nice carving and being that size I can imagine that it is quite striking when seen in person. It looks fine both ways but I am partial to the unpainted one
