Default Lora Irish Greenman

My adoptive Mom is an avid gardener, so....
I gave her this for Christmas.
This is my first relief carving. I learned a lot doing it.

The first picture shows the true color of it, and the second picture shows the detail better...

It's funny, she was a little creeped out by it at first, but she really likes it now...lol...

Thanks for clicking in...
Comments and critique are welcome....

Thanks Rob..
..Yea, she loves it now...

I forgot to mention that he's 14 1/2" X 9" X 1", and carved from basswood. Finished with BLO and spray lacquer.

Hi Jim, your garden green man looks great and it only your first one! You made Susan proud I'm sure.
I think folks tend to as you say 'be a little creeped out' by green men, but once they know the history behind them they feel differently.
Maybe been carving one as a gift you might include a brief history

Kathy,
I did explain a little when I gave it to her, but it was a busy, noisy Christmas day with all the kids and such.
I looked online for something to print out to go with it, but all I really found was that the origins were unknown. He has a duality that I never knew before. It seems he's not just for good harvest, but fertility in general...I left that part out...lol.
