Default Looking for source --- ceramic stone

I am looking for a means to sharpen chip carving and carving knives.. My wife ordered from Chipping Away, but shipment is lost in the mail after over a month, no Xmas present under the tree!...the stones ordered was for the Moor knife, and the 2 stones... after today and no shipment, I looked online at Woodcraft, but they only list the Barton ceramic stone and they don't carry them anymore... can someone recommend a ceramic stone & grit for sharpening the carving knives?... I would like to stay with ceramic only due to the no need for water or oil... tks for input...Dennis

said wait until next Tuesday after New Year and they can trace in Canada mail system, but once it reaches U.S border no trace, and would have to submit search to the post office in Canada & then U.S...before I could get a re-shipment, which they wouldn't send any quicker than the last...so I cancelled the order...Dennis

Dennis Moor at chipping away is good people and he will take care of you, sounds like the post office strikes again! As for your sharpening problem, look up "scary sharp" on a google search, great way to sharpen knives....I still use it on occasion, 4 or 5 sheets of sandpaper on a piece of glass or marble or formica or some flat smooth surface and you are in business.

odd you mention that...I did that the other day on Goggle, and I have sandpaper from 280 320 500 800 1200 1500, and just came inside from trying my wood chiesels on it, I have had them for a long time, but wasn't able to get them sharpe, until I tried the Scary Sharp, and you can shave with them now and look in one and see yourself...I used each grit about 20 laps per side, they haven't been used in a long time and the edges were jagged...can't bellieve the difference...one slipped and nicked my finger, now wearing a bandaid!...Dennis

Hi Dennis,

Check out http://www.carvingpatterns.com/chiptools.htm for exactly what you wanted. I also think Rick has ceramic stones.

This is a place here in Canada that has a very good assortment of carving tools and supplies, the link I've posted is in USD.
