Default log relief carving

hi i'm new to this forum. i don't know any other woodcarvers and am not familiar with the terminology. i've carved a few bowls and vases and did a few pierced reliefs too. recently started working on logs. i call this one "sunbird". made for my recently married brother.

It's very nice. Are you planning some kind of colour to up the contrast or is this the finished piece?

Beautiful design. How is it meant to be displayed?

i was thinking of drilling out the center to make it a flower vase. also found a place that sells various colored stains, like green and yellow. has anyone tried these type of stains?

Ito thimk it would be a stonger peice with added color. It's hard to tell exactly what the picture is. Perhaps if you showed a flat pattern and the log. Just a thought. Feb

MA, burning and carving is not the same as playing with matches and knives.

I agree, color would definitely make the design pop more. Perhaps its the effect of the photo that is flattening it a little. Neat idea though. Let us know what you end up doing.

Welcome to the board by the way. Lot's of great folks and information.
