You fooled me, tells you how much I know about flowers, I thought this was a show carving. Looking at your carving it looks great and you definately are developing a style of your own.
By the way you really can't consider yourself a newbie anymore, your carvings are too good. Your more of a mentor
Mel

Mel | Oh my, say it isn't so---it's very comfortable being a newbie! Thank you for the huge compliment though.
I'm hoping to get this one finished to enter in the Yavapai County Fair in September. The Jack In The Pulpit (avatar) will be at the gallery so I can't enter it. I'm also working on a 3-D carve will share when it's finished.

| | Re: Lady Slipper Relief WIP I just now saw this and I've got to say that it looks good. I was wondering how deep this one was carved and are there any undercuts? I can't really tell from the picture.

| | Re: Lady Slipper Relief WIP Hi Dylan, at it's deepest level it's about 3/4 inch deep. There are some under-cuts and more to come. Right now I'm completing the levels, then I will go back and do more under-cutting. As I will be painting this one also the under-cuts will be very helpful in showing deepth in each element. I will show both the completed relief and the painted relief. Thank you for your interest.

Basswood 10" x 12"
Well, boy did I have to go back in the WCI pages of my original thread. Whew!
I think I'm finished with the carving part. What do you think? Need some fresh eyes to look at it and tell me I'm done or NOT.
The next step will be to put a light walnut stain (bt. umber, bt sienna, touch of raw umber and boiled linseed oil). Then when dry begin to paint the subject using oil paints--as I did with 'Jack In The Pulpit.
There is a show coming up in February down in Mesa, AZ. if all goes well I'll enter the two.
As always I appreciate your thoughts and comments for improvement.
