| | Katy's Angel! I finally finished the angel I have been working on for Katy. I was hoping to get it done for valentines day but missed it. It has been too cold to apply finish in my area so I took it to my neighbors that has a heated workshop. I applied a lightened pecan stain and then three coats of poly. Neighbor say's it looks good to him. She is 12"wide and 21" tall carved in basswood 1 1/2 thick. Let me know what you think good or bad.
Ron
P.S. No I didn't forget about Katy. She got a dozen red roses. I will give this to her friday at dinner. Thanks for your input in advance. |

Wow! What a beautiful carving. You are just getting better and better. I really like how you finished it. It really turned out nice. I was wondering did you have to put a pre-stain on the basswood before the pecan stain? I am currently working on a basswood relief carving and am not sure how to finish it.

P.S. I've been waiting for the staff at WCI to do an article about you. You are quite an inspiration. Thanks for sharing your work with us. |

| | Re: Katy's Angel! Thanks Chipper 67 and also thanks to everyone else for their inspiration. I think WCI has allot more interesting articles than me. I did use a stain preconditioner I always do on basswood. It was a guessing game on the stain I just deluted a small amount with mineral spirits. I like to experiment every now and then.

| | Re: Katy's Angel! hi ron, that is a beautiful carving. these wings look so delicate ( i imagine these took you a lot of patience ), the pose is perfect, i like in particular that the pose speaks serenity and peacefulness. but what is most wonderful is how the delicate carving of the wings surrounds her head, and unifies all, there is a wonderful, very soft movement in the piece ... amazing. well done, very well done, i am sure katy will love it.... thanks for showing us. |
