Yup! saw my Kachina doll, I'm going to try and see how the WIP is going on this project.
Mel | Hi Pal, the 'Korn Maiden' is carved in the old style and was fun to carve and paint. Been working on this carving for three days now just hogging and setting in layers. Hopefully I'll have something I can show by this weekend. I love that little Sun Kachina, it will be fun to carve and paint. Thanks again, Kathy |

| | Re: Kachina Panels WIP Hi Dave, errrr I think your right. I bought a like-new power gouge and chisel by Ryrobi. I understand they no longer make this product, so I'll use it until I burn it up and buy the Foredom Chisel unit. It slices right threw that basswood and Sure has helped speed things up and save my poor old joints. LOL Images this weekend for sure! Kathy |

| | Re: Kachina Panels WIP Hey buddy, I used a router on mine and it sure made work a lot faster. You should consider a plunge router on your next tool purchase, I sure like mine. Maybe this weekend I'll do one for the fun of it.

Mel | Hi Pal, I have heard others talk about a router and it does sound like a must have too. Ahhhh so many tools so little time. LOL

| | Re: Kachina Panels WIP UPDATE Here is a image of my progress, the hogging out has been very time consuming of which I was prepared. Once I get the kachina dolls at the levels I want then I'll redraw the body art. I'm about a little over 1/2" deep for the background. The two end kachina dolls are set back a level from the cloud design corners. The other kachina dolls will be raised and in front of the cloud design. I may actually design a pubelo building into the cloud design. Well, all for now lots more work to do. Comments and s welcome. Kathy

| | Re: Kachina Panels WIP HAAA, Ash, LOL I knew what you meant. Yes, I will keep posting updates. This just seems like one of those carvings that takes a while before you see any real progress. I have a pile of wood chips in my bucket to prove it. I kind of feel like I'm feeling my way threw this carving. Moving from one area to the next trying to remove the wood evenly, so I don't stress one side over the other. Should have a pretty good update image to put in next week. Thanks for looking, tee hee Kathy | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
