| | Re: Kachina Panels WIP Hi There, the orange tape is house painters tape Lowes, Home Depot, Ace the blue will work too. The one I have is 2" and covers great. This type of tape will not leave any glue residue and lifts off easily. Hope this helps
Looking forward to seeing your latest when you get it finished. Horns hey!

| | Re: Kachina Panels WIP Hi All:
Thought you might like to see the center Kachina Panel hung. It seemed so large when I was carving it, but looks so small on the wall. LOL
Hubby helped me with the hanging and making the necessary allows for the additional other two panels. They'll be spaced on each side of the center panel.
I'm working on the second panel now and have two of the three Kachina dolls carved. I feel like I'm really making headway and these two are going so much faster and smoother. Course I didn't carve down as deep as I did with the Center Panel.
The four legged critter in the picture is K. T. our Jack Russell Terrier, she insists on 'striking a pose' for the camera.
As always I enjoy hearing from you all,

| | Re: Kachina Panels WIP Kathy, the finished panel hanging up looks wonderful! (so does the Jack Russell ) I think the spirit of kokapelli (sp?) came back as a Jack Russell.....
I can't wait to see the trio hanging up, but it looks like some tallish items on top of the entertainment center will have to find someplace else to sit so they don't block the view of the two side panels when they are finished.
I hope you will post pics of the two side pieces as they progress. I enjoyed this thread very much and it would be incomplete without the progress of these also. Way to go...... |

| | Re: Kachina Panels WIP Hi susieq, thank you, for returning to see the panel hung. Yeah, the candles and stands will have to go. Unfortunately the tall silver-colored speakers will have to stay as they are part of the surround-a-sound system.
Kachina Dolls as you know can be mischiefious (spelling?). We have friends who Host various Hopi Families that show their work during the Sharlot Hall Indian Faire in Prescott, AZ. in July. During the night the older Hopi female awoke with a really bad dream. She was dreaming that a Kachina was after her and no matter how fast she ran the Kachina ran faster.
She told her Host's about her dream the next morning. Our friends felt bad the the older woman had her Kachina dream. After, the Hopi Guest's left to return home and things settled down at our friends. They started talking about the Kachina dream. The female Hostess, all of a studden gasp, she had put an unfinished (she calls them spirit doll) in a box under the 'Guestroom bed'. The doll was all but finished and a gift for her daughter.
The interesting thing about the dream was that is was the 'Whipper Kachina' (Hu). Needless to say this Hopi family have not been back to stay at our friends.

| | Re: Kachina Panels WIP My Fourth was one of the best ever, got to see all of my brothers and sisters, there's seven of us. With the kids and grandkids there were about 30 of us. It was a great barbeque and lot's of fireworks, 3 hours worth. I guess you would have thought my family was addicted to fireworks with the amount of fireworks they lit. They still had a bunch left over after it was done.
So you keep maze up there, has any ever disappeared. Do you want to have any Kachina dreams or is this to prevent them, just curious?
Mel

Mel | Hey, sounds like one super 4th for you all. Just think you'll have left-overs for next year. Sounds like you have a wonderful family Mel.
Ahhh those mischief Kachina's I keep the maze with them so I won't have Kachina Dreams. I guess they can consider the maze a gift from me. LOL

| | Re: Kachina Panels WIP UPDATE
This is Kachina Panel #2 and this one is all ready to be oiled, stained, then painted.
I did some woodburning which seems to help the various elements in the Kachina stand out better.
As always I appreciate your comments,

| | Re: Kachina Panels WIP hi kathy, this is coming along nicely. i bet it feels really small carving this now after the big panel. ... i admired the foto you showed where we can see how you hang the big panel, i like very much. it seems be the focal area in your living room, and that is well chose for your work. ... i hope we may see in the end when you have hanged all panels. :-) | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
