Background informational thread Relief Project Question?
Hi All: I felt the above thread might get full before I completed mythree panel relief project. Soooooo I decided to start a new thread with the beginning WIP.
I have included my actual original size work-up drawings which made it easier to visualize how it will look and easier to transfer to the wood. I have also included an image of the back cuts I made hopefully to lessen warping of the relief. I'll be carving down to probably a little less than one inch depth for the background and work in layers forward to the foreground.
Still trying to decide on border art.
The Kachina's will be foreword of the background horizontal and vertical lines you see.
Well that's it, wish me luck, and always I appreciate your suggestions, questions and comments.
Kathy
Almost forgot the cute little Kachina center panel third from the left was carved by my Pal 'MelNM'.

Looks like a fun project.
I'll be most interested to see if those slots make a difference.
One question......the strips that you laminated to the end of the boards...which way is the grain going on those strips?
Thanks in advance.

Joe,
Make Chips! | Hi Joe, thank you, for your interest in my project. I too, hope the the cuts keep the relief from warping.
There is no lamination done one these panels (I stopped within 1/2 for a border) I was able to get the size I needed from Heinecke Wood Products their super folks to do business with. I do plan at some point to try my hand at laminating some panels.

| | Re: Kachina Panels WIP Hi Pal, yes, I think so too and thank you. Today, I started hogging out the background of the Center panel. After I get the back ground in I'll post an update. Did you see your Kachina Doll? I think it is so cute, you really did a nice job on the carving. The Korn Maiden is a fun one to carve and paint.
Thanks Again,
