This is a relief carving of Jessica Rabbit, from the movie "Who Framed Roger Rabbit". This is carved from basswood and is about 3/8" thick. I love playing with the perspective on these types of relief carvings. Still need to paint this piece of course, but thought I'd post it for you folks.

And here Colin was worried about his Mrs. Santa (for his chest set) appearing too busty! That's a fine relief, and as everyone said a real likeness to the cartoon character.

Very fine likeness. Brings back a funny memory. My son was 4 years old when we watched that movie on the tv. When he saw Jessica Rabbit, he stretched himself out on the floor leaning up against the couch with his hands tucked behind his head, and said "Now, This is MY kind of movie!".

Concerning Alice's comments on painting the piece, I find that to further obtain the illusion that the piece is carved in 3-D is the paint job. By shadowing where shadows and um.....curves should be, you get an overall better impression.

I really like doing these pieces. I am in the planning stages to do another piece after a cartoon character where a line from the theme song is "Long Tails and Ears for Hats". Any guesses?
