Default Help with Salmon relief

I'm dotng a relief from the Lora Irish book WILDLIFE IN RELIEF,it is called SALMON FISHING. i'ts a bear standing in water and you can see the fish and rocks and part of his feet under water. How do you make the transition between what's above and what's below. The only other caring I've seen like that is on the cover of CHIP CHATS vol. 52 No 5 FEB

Hi feb, I have the same book and have looked at the images on page 44. Susan (I hope I'm seeing this image right but here goes) solved this problem by having a fallen tree limb under the surface with trout in front of where the feet would be. Why not do the same?
As the bears feet are under water the definition of the legs and feet wouldn't have the importance of the part of the bear that is above the water. So, if it were me I would just slightly carve out the legs and feet to show just an indication and carve in some ripple lines running across the legs. The legs wouldn't have straight lines, but would have sort of wavy lines. Hope this makes since.
Hopefully Susan will see your thread and comment. Also you might copy and paste this thread and send her an email asking for a comment on your question. She's a great gal and loves to help.

Feb, I just found the Salmon Fishing pattern and pencil rendering. I can see the legs now....the circular lines that Susan shows around the legs are very important. You need to carve them into the composition, the viewers eye will understand that the feet are under water. Where the feet are underwater don't carve them as deeply as you would the parts that are out of the water. I think that will work! Please share your progress with us.
