Default Help with ID on this old women carving - p.s I'm new!

Hi Everyone,
Vickie here from Scotland. I was wanting help in identifying this little old ladt carving. It is signed with very faintly on the base with initials PA. I was wondering if Paul Archibald Caron whould sign like this??? Or does anyone recognize what country it would be from? I'm not sure what the wood is, but it is very light weight, like Balsa Wood. I'm not sure of the age but looks around 1900 - what does everyone think!
Best Wishes
Vickie
