Hi Fellow Carvers, Months ago a carving was posted that was done on an old (grayed) piece of board. The carving was (I think) a relief carving of a figure or animal. The carver left the wood with its origina petina of color and colored the carving, then cleared just the carving. It was striking! I believe it to be a Chip or Relief carving. I'm not sure if I have the type of carving correct. Does anyone remember seeing such a carving or know who's carving it might be. I'm trying to find the photos of this piece. It caught my eye and I'd like to try this style of carving. The aged wood in contrast to the finished carving was outstanding! Thanks, CosmoQ |

Would these be what your looking for? Three Owls - Woodcarving Illustrated Photo Gallery By Dick "chipncut" Cain? If the link doesnt work, you can find his album in the Carvers Galleries. Marcia. |

Thank you Marci. I do not see the piece in any of his work which is outstanding by the way. The piece I'm looking for looks like an old board or plank that has aged to a color that is light gray. The more I think about it, the carving may have been of a character face. CosmoQ |

Although it doesn't match the description you gave, here is a weathered (gray) board carved into a name sign. We found the board on an island beach in Nova Scotia while kayaking there a few years ago. Nameplate - Woodcarving Illustrated Photo Gallery |

Thanks Pallin, Great work! The gray aging of the driftwood makes a striking contrast, however its not the one I'm looking for. CosmoQ |
