I have a couple of the Dunkle knives on order to replace this warren interchangeable set I got by mistake at the show. I also plan on purchasing the Barton knives and stones as well.

Thanks for being an inspiration.
Yes, I do remember you and it was a nice conversation we had. Good luck!

Don't get rid of your Warren set, you might decide to try other forms of carving in addition to Chip Carving. Also, you might check Dennis Moor's kinves, as well as Barton. The Barton knives cost a little more, but the Moor knives are excellent as well. Make sure you order it "sharpened". Any time you ask opinions of "what knife should I use" be prepared for a lengthy discussion! As for me, my advice is to get the best knife you can afford, and keep it sharp.
Best of luck
Steve

Thanks everyone. I got the Dunkle knives yesterday in the mail. While they do seem sharp, I don't think they are scalpel sharp at all. So I will head down to the local Woodcraft tonight to see if they carry any chip carving stuff and pick up some basswood. If not, then I will order the sharpening stuff online.

I got my knifes from Marty at my chip carving .com and I can not tell you how much I love them, they are Wayne Barton knifes. you can get them in other places. but the one thing I love about Marty's sight, he has videos to teach you how to chip carve. and He is very friendly and helpful. they are not cheap any where. but well worth the money. I have broke a couple of knifes chip carving. not that they was bad but to thin for me. the handle on the Wayne Barton knifes are made to fit the hand and thump. and they will take a plunge better then any other knife I have tried. I do have othe chip carving knife profiles that I use also. but that is my main knife. also the stab knife is very useful.
