Post gouge cabinet

I have over 100 gouges with no where to keep 1/2 of them. I am looking for designs or ideas on a nice storage cabinet when opened will display the tools for easy selection while working. A portable fold out carying case would also be great. Any ideasdesigns or links would be appreciated.

When I visited a woodcarving studio in Sweden last fall, I took this picture of the case he used hoping I can build one soon.

I started a thread a long time ago, something like "Show me your tool chest" where I posted some cases/cabinets I made and filled (fairly quickly) with nearly 100 gouges...

I made them quite simple, with 1" X 2" and 1/4" birch plywood.
All hardware; hinges, latches and carrying handles came from Lee Valley.
Not very sophisticated, but functional.

If you look through the "Search" function you can find the pictures.
I made them to be both carrying cases and wall-mountable racks (where they spend 90% of their time).

A couple of years ago when our basement/my shop flooded I simply took them off the wall, folded them closed and carried some 75+ gouges at the time to drier, safer ground.

When all was dried out and repaired I simply marched them back into the basement & hung them back on the wall.

I have subsequently added a rack (the kind used to hold clamps) to hold the overflow from my original cases...pictures of that are on the same thread I think.
Since images can only be posted once on the Message Board, rather than renaming them and re-posting them, I think you can find them under the " Search" function.

If not I can dig them out to you and send them PM if you like.

Thor,

Thanks. Your design is exactly what I'm interested in. Could describe how it was constructed?
