Because this fantastic style of carving is far above me, I'm not even certain this is chip carving. But you need to see these crosses. Check out papasar's work in the Carver's gallery.

Beautiful work, isn't it Nancy. I was in looking last night. Beautiful work Papasar. This board is awsome....the talent and spirit on here is so impressive. Each time I open a new gallery I am blown away. Papasar's Crosses, Hugh's Chickadee and ducks, Santa's, characatures, fish, birds, spirits, mountain men,........and so on. Well done folks, well done. Bob

Now that's beautiful work! It sure takes some time and good eyes for works of art like that. Mike

Thanks for the compliments. But in my opinion, the carving I do is really the simplest of all the forms. It doesn't take much effort to follow a pattern that is already laid out on the wood. You just need a steady hand. There is not much thought going into the carving, which is exactly why I use it for a kind meditation or relaxation. All the work is in the design of the pattern. I don't have worry about scale, or getting the right expression, or making the eyes talk, or showing motion etc. I also do in the round and relief carving and am pretty much self taught in those types. My hats off to to all you carvers who do birds, relief, characters, critters and the like. Now that takes talent!!!! Thanks again, Bill K.
