Exclamation glue-up question

I've asked this question in the general WC site without response and thought someone doing deep relief may have an answer

I am in the process of working on the design of a very deep relief carving. The completed project will be about 18" X 36" and about 4+" deep. I've worked with glue-ups before but am going to ask the question of anyone who has done anything like this before.

Is there a rule of thumb as to how to lay out the grain pattern of the individual pieces? I will be using 9-2x6 basswood laid face to face and don't want to end up with grain issues during the carving process. The complete project will be done with hand chisels and very little power carving making grain an issue.

well as far as the grain it needs to be glued in the same direction... this is for glue holding an not hitting a diff grain as u carve deerer in the wood id recomend a slower drying glue like a tight bond.. also u need to know if this is going to be something placed outside as this will differ the glue choice... good luck... an for heavens sake dont use gorilla glue

I received a quite long response from Mark Yundt discussing procedures. If someone would like to see the response, let me know
