Default Front of Outdoor shoe box

This was made out of Mahogany. It is the front of an outdoor shoe box. A wood spirit from a pattern of Lora Irish. 16" by 30" panel. Stain with BLO, and then stain coat with acrylic... which I was deeply disappointed at the painted look and decided at that this point next time either go all the way with the paint or no paint at all. I coated with a marine spar and a heavy waxed finish as this would be in the sun and rain. The mahogany as you can see has already turn a dark brown and next time no paint or perhaps a light dry brush.. Di

Hi, Di! It still looks great. Very cool piece and functional too. Can't beat that.

Hey, I don't see a problem with the paint. I like the effect - you've done a fine job.

I know that a picture vs. actually seeing the real thing can sometimes be deceiving, for the good or the worst. With that said I'll also have to confess as a carver that I can be my own worst critic. I will see every so-called flaw but my observers will still be awed and see nothing but amazement.

Hoping not to disappoint you I honestly see nothing but "amazement" with your beautiful spirit cover. Thanks for letting us see it!

Critic...Oh just to let you know I am never happy with too much of my art.... I will be having a show of my work and calling everyone not to come because I know everything that is wrong with each part. In essence this is good as I am always working to be better, it is also bad because I am never excited and normal bored by the time a piece is finished up. I am hoping by the time I get ready to pass away...that I can say now that is a great job on that statue. But we will see.... it is really hard not to post the 50 things wrong with each piece ... I got my hands bundled up that helps....smile Di

Di, I really like the way the color turned out. I just bet you would have folks here on the board lining up to get all those pieces you don't like, with me right up front.

You need to not be so critical on yourself. Art is a feeling, not just following the rules to a T. Enjoy your work, cause we sure do.

Di,
I really like this. As I often do, I looked at the picture before reading your comments. One of the first thoughts that I had was I really like the painting it is subtle and really compliments this carving. Then I read your thoughts and went back and looked at it again. I still really like the painting.

Safe Carving and God Bless,

Mark
