Kathy do you have any pics of carvings where you have used the Golden Oak stain on a carving.
Ron and Hruukki I checked out your carvings and website beautiful work.
Mel | Hi Mel, here is a link to my images in the 'Carver's Gallery' Mottles Gallery - Wood Carving Illustrated Photo Gallery take a look at The Creede Mountain Man (Gargac class) and Pin Tail those both have the Golden Oak Stain. The Pin Tail I did wind up painting, big mistake! I really wish I'd left well enough alone. Hope these help.
I'm considering the Golden Oak Stain for my Kachina Panels also. I bought some Minwax Prestain and Feed and Wax today. I wanted to try them on some other things before applying them to my panels. Gee what a concept! LOL

| | Re: A Friends Insperation Thanks Susan and Kenny for your comments and kind words they are really appreciated.
I have a few questions about Danish Oil, it will be the first time I have ever used it. 1st gotta go to the store and buy some.
1. Do I brush it on or wipe it on?
2. Kathy mentioned to put varnish on it, could I spray on Deft and lightly sand it.
3. Lastly should I put a couple of coats on it also, or just go with the varnish.
Sorry about all the questions.
Thanks again everyone
Mel

| | Re: A Friends Insperation As this is such a nice relief carving that you did,I think I would maybe paint the Kachina but leave the background with a natural finish Mel.

Mel | Hey Pal, I really like the idea for this one using the stain of your choice. I like to use Deft spray and matte varnish. You can sand after the varnish is good and dry. Another thought is if you are still unsure of a stain or not use a scrap piece of basswood to test.
I had bought some Minwax Pre-Stain and Feed and Wax with the thought of maybe just using the natural wood color.
But I'll go a head and do my original plan....Golden Oak, oil paint the Kachina Dolls and finish with spray varnish.
Kathy
