Mack... Nice job. I wouldn't even know where to begin and I'd sure have to keep the can of stain and some sand paper close by for all my happy mistakes!

Hey there Mack C.,
WOW very nice plate! How did you get the stain to not penetrate so it would not show in the chips? I have tried it with paint over a lightly sealed basswood blank. Worked pretty well. It's a little tricky to get the paint to not show too many brush marks over urethane or sanding sealer.
Again, beautiful plate.

Hi Tom; I use a gel stain by WOOD-KOTE® but any gel stain wood do I suppose. The beauty of the gels is that they don't soak in like liquid oil stains. 2 or 3 coats of Deft® lacquer spray and you are good to go! The pattern is traced on using graphite paper, and the lines remaining from the graphite are easily removed with the light touch of an Art Gum eraser.
