Default Found these at a sale...

I just posted a trio of chip carvings that I got for under a dollar (total) at a college yard sale. Look under Chip Carving catagory in Image galleries, or try this link;
Not my Chip carvings. - Wood Carving Illustrated Photo Gallery

(sorry, I can't post thumbnails)

Under a dollar? Wow! Someone obviously didn't know how much work it took to carve those. Great buy. Thanks for sharing.

Great buy !! Wonder what it says on the back--I used to know someone who spoke Norwegian but she recently passed away. I know they do alot of chip carving over there, and she was an avid collector. Very nice.

Great finds Kris, what are the dimensions? They're beautifully carved.

its always with a bit of sadness I see these things. I can think of more than one old guy who slaved over a piece, and gave it to his kids or friends and when he passed they threw it out. I had a uncle who did a lot of woodworking and carving and when he died, his kids threw everything away, carvings, tools the works.
Met another old guy who'se family put him in a old peoples home, he'd sit and carve, and I'd talk to him on my rounds and he hoped that he could give these things to his children to remember him by. He died and his kids threw it all away. Not a real artisan or anything but he worked hard at it and it was respectable ya know?
Ya never know, I hope the artist in this endeavor had great fun carving them.

Great garage sale find. It looks like nice clean, crisp cuts.

What happens to our treasured items when we pass them on (or pass on) is always a concern. But how much it should concern us is a great topic for discussion in another thread. Lots of opinions I'm sure.
